A Bengaluru girl has started an inter-state biking trip from Madurai to Kollam for boosting tourist/pilgrim
places and traditional fare on the Madurai-Srivilliputtur-Kollam segment.
District Tourism Officer P. Balamurugan flagged off the biking trip by Kalaskruthi who embarked on a similar journey to Ladakh earlier.
Many tourists are not mindful regarding olden temples with architectural wonders and home-grown food with distinctive flavors on the Madurai-Srivilliputtur-Kollam route. In addition to the well-known Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple, Madurai presents delicious jigarthanda for gourmets. Srivilliputtur has the enormous Andal Temple tower and the celebrated milk kova.
The entire expanse of Srivilliputtur-Tenkasi thoroughfare is picturesque which would captivate tourists right away.
In addition to temples, the Sankarankoil biriyani, Tenkasi halwa, Courtallam falls, ‘Border kadai’ parotta of Shenkottai would surely render a satisfying trip to travelers coming from Tamil Nadu.
Kerala also presents attractive tourist places like Shendurunni Wildlife preserve, Punalur suspension
bridge, Thenmalai eco-tourism venture and backwaters of Ashtamudi close to Kollam.
Mr. Balamurugan said that food tourism has developed a lot in the last few years and even native guides have surfaced with their own circuit for food lovers in Madurai.
