charge of housings, and being out of the travel pattern.

For Canadians, the allure for traveling throughout the state does not appear to be what it used to be, again charge, selection, the Canadian dollar, expense of energy, rate of lodgings.

As said by the Tourism Industry Association of New Brunswick, figures this year can be compared to 2019,
conditional on the segment.

Andrew MacNair, the CEO of TIANB said that it flattened out all through the summer with price rises
and gas costs. There were quite a few contributing issues.

MacNair added that they did see numbers carry on going in the correct course. However, price increases, fuel expenses and the weather created an effect.

Stacey Russell, the manager of Fredericton Tourism said that when weather is taken into consideration,
what they have experienced is that majority of people are not likely to change their ideas for the weather;
they just regulate what they are doing.

Tourism – the second major financial driver in Tennessee

After agriculture, tourism is the second major financial driver in Tennessee. Interestingly, it doesn’t look to slow down anytime soon.

Roughly, Tennessee witnesses 100 million visitors every single year. Last year, there were more than 141 million tourists.

In 2022, Tennessee surpassed a record by making approximately $28.8 billion in direct tourism
expenditure. This shows a 19% upsurge compared to 2021 and the 2019 highest of just more than $24
billion.

Davidson County headed the charge, amassing roughly $9.97 billion, but tourism isn’t only in Music City.

Shelby County made around $4.02 billion, and it was followed by Sevier with $3.77 billion, Knox with $1.88 billion and Hamilton with $1.63 billion.

There is something for everyone in the Volunteer State – doesn’t matter whether you are on Broadway in
Nashville, in Beale Street for good barbecue or looking into Graceland in Memphis, watching University of
Tennessee football playoffs or visiting Dollywood in East Tennessee or even holidaying at Tri-Cities area
and Roan Mountain.

CHTA, CAST and CBF Join Forces to Preserve Caribbean Biodiversity

The Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA) and its environmental arm, the Caribbean Alliance for Sustainable Tourism (CAST), have signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Caribbean Biodiversity Fund (CBF) to jointly promote the conservation, protection and management of biodiversity and natural resources in the Caribbean. This collaboration is crucial as the tourism industry relies heavily on a healthy natural environment.

“The Caribbean is listed as a biodiversity hotspot because it hosts an exceptional concentration of endemic species not found anywhere else in the world,” said Karen McDonald Gayle, CEO of CBF. “These species are severely threatened with what conservationists say are the highest extinction rates in modern history,” she continued.

The threat is growing, according to the Global Wildlife Conservation charity, which reports that more than 1,200 Caribbean species face global extinction threats, including 49% of reptiles, 75% of amphibians, and nearly 100% of surviving native land mammal species. Thousands more remain to be assessed.

The CBF is actively addressing these challenges by working with participating countries to help guide their efforts. Through grants and technical support, the CBF is assisting many of the countries in the region with resources to support innovative conservation practices, enforcement measures, capacity-building, awareness-building, research, infrastructure, monitoring needs and other activities that substantially contribute to biodiversity conservation, protection and maintenance.

A recent report by the World Travel and Tourism Council revealed that more than 80% of the value of travel and tourism goods and services is highly dependent on nature – from the demand for raw materials to the popularity of nature-based tourism. It further revealed that over 50% of the travel and tourism market share globally is driven by nature tourism and the desire to explore new environments, which is expected to grow year over year.

CHTA president Nicola Madden-Greig shared that CHTA and CAST are committed to sustainability in the Caribbean tourism industry. Together, they work with more than 1,000 hotels, allied members, and over 30 National Hotel and Tourism Associations, accelerating the full potential of the Caribbean hotel and tourism industry. “We are advancing our members’ ability to be responsible stewards in preserving, protecting and enhancing the natural beauty and biodiversity of the region upon which the very viability and sustainability of the tourism industry and the social and economic benefits are realized,” she explained.

“Our three organizations are combining our resources to mitigate the impact on the native terrestrial wildlife and plant life. CAST and CHTA look forward to working with the CBF to be a bridge between the industry, conservation and tourism interests both locally and regionally,” declared Kyle Mais, Chairman of CAST.

The MOU recalls that Caribbean governments and CHTA, partnering with the World Travel and Tourism Council, endorsed the Global Biodiversity Framework in 2022. This framework sets new biodiversity conservation targets and calls on the business sector to progressively reduce negative impacts on terrestrial and marine biodiversity, increase positive outcomes, and promote actions to ensure sustainability.

The collaboration will include communications and advocacy to raise awareness of the Caribbean’s biodiversity and conservation priorities and promote positive actions taken by the tourism and environmental sectors. They will also advocate for regional and international support to mainstream nature-positive tourism across the region.

Elizabeth Maruma Mrema, the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity Executive Secretary, underscores that: “Much of the travel and tourism sector relies on the beauty of nature and the resources it provides. Yet, we are losing biodiversity and natural resources at an unprecedented rate. Travel and tourism is in a unique position to contribute to this reversal by implementing a number of measures such as educating and raising awareness; generating revenue streams that sustain the protection, management, and restoration of ecosystems; and reducing footprint activities, amongst others.”

The organizations have agreed to exchange and strengthen expertise in biodiversity conservation, impact mitigation, improved waste management, ecosystem restoration and adaptation to climate change within the hotel and tourism sector. They have also prioritized information sharing for collective learning, institutional strengthening and shared problem-solving.

CTO to Showcase the Caribbean at FIT Tourism Fair in Argentina

The Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) brings the region’s vibrant culture and diverse travel experiences to the Latin American market during the highly anticipated FIT Tourism Fair in Argentina this month.

FIT, Feria Internacional de Turismo (International Tourism Fair), one of the most renowned tourism shows in Latin America, attracts thousands of travel industry professionals and enthusiasts from around the world. This year’s event will take place from September 30 to October 3 at La Rural Convention Center, and it promises to be a dynamic platform for showcasing the Caribbean’s unparalleled tourism offerings.

“FIT Tourism Fair provides an excellent opportunity for us to share the enchanting Caribbean experience with the people of Argentina and Latin America,” said Dona Regis-Prosper, Secretary-General and CEO of the CTO. “We look forward to showcasing the warmth of our people, the richness of our culture, and the beauty of our landscapes,” she added.

The CTO’s presence at FIT reaffirms its commitment to making the Caribbean a premier travel destination in this vital market, representing nearly 34.5 million outbound travelers from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Peru and Uruguay. The Caribbean welcomed a record 1.5 million Latin American visitors in 2019.

Visitors to the CTO booth will have the opportunity to explore the region’s diversity as representatives from Antigua & Barbuda and the Cayman Islands will be on-site sharing the Caribbean’s universal appeal. The Dutch Antilles country of CuraƧao, also a CTO member, will also have a presence at the Fair.

CTO Allied Member EM Marketing, which is facilitating the participation of member governments in opportunities to tap the Latin American market, will be on hand to share insights into the region’s latest travel trends and experiences.

On Monday, October 2, at 4 p.m., there will be a 45-minute Caribbean-themed presentation in the Nogal Room, highlighting the region for the trade attendees. All attendees and travel enthusiasts are invited to visit booth #2420 during the event.

“We are proud to be allied members of the CTO and look forward to lending support to the region during this year’s FIT, as we have been doing since 2015,” remarked Elsa Petersen, Founder and CEO of EM Marketing. “The Latin American market offers significant growth potential for the Caribbean, and we are excited to showcase the region’s unique value proposition to conference attendees,” she continued.

EM Marketing, a Buenos Aires-based integrated communications agency specializing in tourism marketing, takes a creative approach to make a real impact for its clients throughout Latin America.

CTO Allied Members play a pivotal role by providing recommendations concerning regional tourism programs, identifying opportunities to enhance the CTO’s non-government membership program, and facilitating the coordination of essential activities during major CTO events. These events include the Allied Marketing Conference and networking initiatives designed for both government and allied members.

CTO is the premier regional tourism development agency for the Caribbean. It represents 25 Caribbean countries and territories, fostering sustainable tourism development and promoting the region as the most desirable, year-round, warm-weather destination.
