HKUST’s first appearance as Hong Kong’s predictive tourism index
Today, the School of Business and Management of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology opened the Wisers-HKUST Tourism Index together with Wisers Information Limited, giving support to the tourism growth of Hong Kong after the recommencement of normal travel procedures between the Mainland and Hong Kong.
As the first artificial intelligence powered forecasts in terms of tourism index for Hong Kong leveraging the project will allow the stakeholders of the sector to measure near-term tourism viewpoint better for pre-emptive strategy and business planning, thus adding to the industry’s long-term growth and expansion.
With a vision to aid forward-looking policy in terms of development and planning by toursim and pertinent agencies, the Tourism Index, a combined scheme between Wisers’ Wisers AI and School’s Center for Business and Social Analytics provides prediction of the main tourism metrics on the basis of predictive model of mainlanders’ traveling to Hong Kong. The model was built by making the use of leading-edge AI technologies, to examine more than 10 million data points from online travel agencies,
social media platforms and travel forums in China.
The tourism sees tough situations in business planning, as main tourism statistics are available with a lag time.
