Goa tourism witnesses increase of over 40% in new registrations

After make things easier for the registration process of hotels and other lodgings, the Goa tourism division witnessed an increase of more than 40% in new registrations.

According to the tourism director Suneel Anchipaka, there is an increase in cataloguing of hotels and other entities which is approximately 46% since the alteration of law. A clampdown on unlawful hotels, guest houses and other housings, which functioned shorn of registration, has made the operators to register. Nilesh Shah, the President of the Travel and Tourism Association of Goa (TTAG) stated that unregistered flats, bungalows among other housings, have little cost of operations, while registered bodies continue to face problems. The government also loses income.

Shah said that from the time when the government has started cracking down against the unlawful operators, the unregistered list of rooms has been curtailed. Mr. Anchipaka said that the tourism division’s decision to decrease the number of papers that an operator or owner needed for registration pushed many to get registered. He said that they have halved the documents obligatory for new registration.

The division also initiated imposing fines and removing power and water sources to drive the operators to authorize their hospitality trade. Two years before, the tourism division changed the law and made it compulsory for online aggregators to make sure that housings registered on their portals should be recorded.
