Achieving Sky-High Sustainability: Vistara’s Partnership with SITA to Promote Fuel Efficiency and Optimal Flight Paths

The first Indian airline to implement both SITA eWAS and SITA OptiClimb® systems is Vistara. Vistara, a joint venture between the Tata Group and Singapore Airlines hopes to greatly enhance the effectiveness of flight planning and operations, reduce fuel consumption, and cut carbon emissions by 15,000 tons annually.

According to Sumesh Patel, President, Asia Pacific, SITA, India’s aviation sector is expanding at a breakneck pace, and it is thrilling to assist top airlines like Vistara with solutions that boost their productivity, drastically cut fuel use, and support initiatives for more environmentally friendly air travel. He says, “We’re now seeing an increasing number of Indian airlines looking for smart solutions to optimize operations and enhance the passenger experience.”

By giving pilots enhanced weather awareness information, Vistara will be able to increase overall flight safety and effectiveness. It acts as a very efficient method of disseminating OptiClimb recommendations.

SITA OptiClimb® is the first machine-learning technology in the market that offers personalized climb profile recommendations for every flight and uses prior flight data to anticipate fuel usage during the climb out. By doing this, Vistara will be able to save an average of 80 tons of fuel per year per aircraft and cut carbon emissions by about 250 tons annually. Annual fuel savings for Vistara’s total fleet are predicted to be more than 5,000 tons, which will result in a more than 15,000-ton drop in carbon emissions.

Captain Hamish Maxwell, Senior Vice President – Flight Operations, Vistara, said: “Advanced technology solutions, such as SITA OptiClimb and SITA eWAS, enable clear enhancements in these areas, which ultimately help us to reduce our carbon footprint. We are committed to continuing on this path and will keep evolving as a future-ready, world-class airline.”
