Pulikkayam to have its academy for adventure sports soon

Kerala Adventure: Kayaking Academy and Festival

For adventure water sports, the Department of Tourism is all geared up to open a permanent academy at Pulikkayam in Kodencheri. It’s one of the venues for the Malabar River Festival.

P.A. Mohamed Riyas, Tourism Minister, Kerala, while distributing the prizes to the winners in the 9th edition of the festival on Sunday organized at Pulloorampara, he said that in the tourism calendar for Kerala, the end of July will remain reserved for the Malabar River Festival so that local as well as international kayakers can get ready in advance to take part in the event.

At Pulikkayam earlier on the same day, the Minister had inaugurated the International Kayaking Centre as well.Mr. Riyas also expressed his plan for organizing kayaking festival of a similar type on Seethathodu in Pathanamthitta district. He explained that this season, having the Olympic selection trials as part of the River festival has elevated the glory of it.

The declaration of Pathankayam as a tourist destination by the minister came as a shot in the arm for tourism. After several drowning incidents, the waterfall at Pathankayam was closed down for tourists. The Minister promised that suitable arrangements related to safety measures will be made before the destination is opened once again.
