Governments need to brace themselves against natural disasters

India Governments:need to brace themselves against natural disasters

Heavy rains and floods have instigated wreckage in Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab and Delhi. Natural catastrophes have become a recurrent global occurrence in recent times. Governments and people might think that ‘this too shall pass’ and disregard everything. However, nature won’t give in.

The big question is: will administrations learn their lessons from these natural calamities and adopt course adjustment? It is easy to attribute the current deluges and avalanches to policy let-down. Himalayan states have turned centers of tourism, with a conspicuous increase in individual income and a prosperous demand for entertaining activities.

The Central and state administrations have energetically upheld the tourism and hospitality
segments inclusive of macroeconomic rules to lift the service segment for increasing the state and
countrywide GDP.

The tourism division is one of the most sought-after segments in the post-Covid times. It is predictable to lure 13 million global travelers and 2 billion local travelers, generate 88 million employments, make
around $30 billion foreign exchange and add around $143 billion to the GDP this year. This segment asks for enormous infrastructure expansion, comprising roads and lodging.
