Tourism booming in Cuba with international tourists
The National Statistics Bureau on Wednesday said that in the initial four months of this year, Cuba welcomed more than 1.2 million visitors from abroad. This went up by 190 percent from the year before.
Canada tops the chart with 495,000 visitors. The United States follows with 54,000 and Russia with 44,000 respectively.
Juan Carlos Garcia, the Tourism Minister, Cuba, said that fuel price rise and the U.S. blockade have affected European tourist inflow toward the island.
The government of Cuba in 2023 is hopeful to see around 3.5 million visitors from foreign country as the tourism is reviving gradually and reaching to the levels of pre-pandemic times of more than 4 million visitors every year.
Cuba last year greeted around 1.7 million international tourists. It was less than the 2.5 million what the government had said.
Mario Abreu, the business owner, said that tourism is important for their financial system. It helps people who rent their houses to tourists, cab drivers, and the ones who are associated with the hospitality industry. Mario added that they need more tourists to come to Cuba.
Valentina Fernandez, a tourist from Argentina came to Cuba on her dream vacation. After landing in Havana for the first time, her experience was amazing.
The 33-year-old tourist got enthralled by the Havana beaches and the revolutionary history of the island, including Che Guevara’s stay in the Caribbean.
