Asiana Airlines to stop selling seats near the emergency exit on Airbus A321s

The airline decided on Sunday that Asiana Airlines will no longer sell tickets for certain emergency exit seats of its Airbus A321-200 aircraft, after a recent incident where a passenger opened an emergency door mid-air causing a man to allegedly open a jetliner door during a flight.

According to news reports, the airline said that the emergency exit seats (31a and 26a) on its fleet of A321 – 200m aircraft would no longer be offered for sale in order to prevent such incidents from happening again.

The statement stated that this measure is a safety precaution and applies even if the flight is full. The corresponding seat on the right–hand side is where flight attendants sit for takeoff and landing.

The aircraft landed safely but several people were hospitalized. There were no serious injuries or damage.
A court issued an arrest warrant for Lee, Yonhap reported, citing the depth of his case and the risk of flight. He had been detained by authorities in Daegu and faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted.

According to the Daegu Fire Department, 12 people suffered minor injuries from hyperventilation, and nine of them were sent to hospitals in Daegu.

Asiana Airlines spokesperson commented on the incident that the airplane is automatically set to adjust the pressure of the cabin according to the altitude of the aircraft. When the aircraft is high up in the air, it is impossible to open the door, but when the altitude is low and close to landing, the door can be opened.
