Ministers of tourism in Jamaica and South Africa meet for tourism growth
Hon. Edmund Bartlett,the Minister of Tourism in Jamaica, and his South African equivalent, Hon. Patricia de Lille, met on the 3rd of this month. They deliberatedon creating a collaborativeagendafor making tourism an important driver of financial growth.
Jamaica welcomes the prospective for partnership, predominantly in the domain of tourism. This is a sector that can be transformative, socially and financially. Jamaica aims to make use of tourism for the full advantageof the particular countries. Equally Jamaica and South Africa are leaders in sustainable tourism; hence, collectively, they haveloads ofnotions and best practices to share, said Minister Bartlett.
Both the tourism ministers met duringthe African Tourism Investment summit, which is presentlyin progress in Cape Town, South Africa. It has the theme, ‘revitalizing investment in sustainable tourism on the African continent,’ where Minister Bartlett took part in a ministerial discussion with ministers of the government, finance administrators and managers from South Africa, Sierra Leone, Botswana and Spain.
The two countries also decided onadditionalcollaboration in the domains of human capital growth, mostly training, and the creating of investment choices to have South African investors consider product expansion in Jamaica. Minister Bartlett said that there are a lot of scopes for investing in Jamaica’s tourism sector, so they welcome this interest from South Africa.
In connection with air connectivity, the tourism ministers talked regardingthe possibilities for introducing new flight facilities between the two countries.
